Rep. Cobb: Weekly Wrap

Tennessee's Constitution says judges must be 'elected by the qualified voters of the state.' The lengthy debate in the legislature has focused on whether or not the selection process with a retention vote meets that test, with detractors saying that it blatantly violates the constitution.

Kim Denton says, "enough is enough"

On March 5th, 2009, I created and registered the name “truth_is” and posted four comments on Topix. Apparently the message I was trying to convey is STILL not reaching those that are so consumed with hate for Roy and Kim Denton that there is just no reasoning with these people who comment on Topix. These people continuously ASSUME that the Dentons are so pathetic that the Dentons are somehow addicted with need for some kind of ongoing dialogue with these hateful people. These people do not go to Topix to discuss current events in Dayton, but they go there to routinely anonymously try to antagonize the Dentons in to some sort of online confrontation ALL OF THE TIME, even after the Dentons STOPPED posting there. When the Dentons posted they were Wolfeagle and Gracie. Comments were made in October that were so bad and personal that Topix themselves removed such comments. It was not long after that the Dentons decided to really not get involved with the type of people that hovered over Topix waiting to pounce on any comment from either one of them as their true identities have been known, including the pen names they liked to use when writing blogs or other Internet opinions/articles/stories et cetera. Now, the Dentons were notified that their real names were bringing brought up ONCE AGAIN, long after they decided to no longer post because they did post with their real names. Other people are posting anonymously and yet anonymous posters are accusing the Dentons of posting what? Oh, anonymous comments the same as everyone else on Topix, yet for some reason the Dentons are not allowed to be who they are, nor are they allowed to be anonymous on an anonymous posters website. Are you realizing yet how crazy you sound?

Bob Vincent's new website sparks NEW SayNoToBobVincent website.

Bobby D. Vincent wants to become one of the oldest mayors in Dayton, Tennessee history. Mayor Vincent, who is reported to be around the grand old age of 73 is seeking re-election to the office of mayor of Dayton. Apparently, someone has failed to advise him that Dayton has NEVER HAD AN ELECTED MAYOR. How does Mr. Vincent ask for RE-election to something that a council merely appointed him to? Dayton has never had an elected mayor until this election. What some have said to be a brilliant political ploy in the creation of the new website http://reelectmayorvincent.com on the part of the Vincent for Mayor team has caused a group of Dayton voters to create their own website aimed at reminding voters of the issues, both past and present. Based upon the content of both websites will indeed spark much interest and debate in this very important upcoming election for mayor.

Small town Mayor Gone Mad!

With the economy in shambles, record losses, soaring fuel costs, sky rocketing across the board expenses just for average people to get by, Dayton Mayor Bob Vincent is either oblivious to the burden on the people or he doesn't give a damn one. I don't know. Mayor Bob Spongeman wants to build water systems, wants to sell water to neighboring drought ridden areas, wants to buy new fire trucks (for what?), wants to give massive pay increases, wants to... yada, yada, yada The fact of the matter seems to be that Mayor Vincent isn't the little Papa Smurf fellow he apparently wants people to think he is. We say, "Let's find out". With the Dayton city council elections around the corner we feel that perhaps the Papa Smurf fiasco may turn out to be more like one of those seven dwarfs...Which one, well maybe we can have some sort of contest or something. .

Theft on the rise in Rhea County yet people ignore it

In spite of a few uninformed people predicting that theft will become less and less a problem, it seems that those with such opinions are either stoners, drunk or completely out of touch. Rhea County Sheriff’s Department detective Rocky Potter said crime is up across Rhea County. However, he added that although crime is higher, Rhea County has a little less thefts and burglaries than in surrounding counties. However, this is of little comfort given the staggering high thefts in all surrounding counties, including the impoverished county of Rhea...

TVA head pledges to test wells near coal ash spill, Rhea media could care less?

The CEO and president of the nation's largest public utility promised Sunday to address the health and safety concerns of a community near a major coal ash spill in Roane County, Tennessee and neighboring Rhea County's ONLY newspaper media apparently ignores it. Just why would a disater just 3 DAYS BEFORE Christmas at that, in neighboring Roane County that effected several hundred residents not be considered news worthy by Rhea County's "ONLY" newspaper? Did they print the story? If so, did they use invisible ink? Is the Herald-News now begging what few readers they have to help them pick a TOP 10 story for them? In fact, what story would even fit the bill as a "top" story? In any event, times are too hard to throw good money away for bad newspapers. Read about this disater here for FREE.
