Blaze tears through Grassflat home

A fire ripped through a two-story Grassflat home Sunday morning, displacing a couple and their family pets.
The fire happened about 10:45 a.m. just over the Clearfield County line in Cooper Township.
According to Cpl. Thomas E. Josephson, a Clearfield state police fire marshal, the home at 1178 Cooper Ave. was owned by Joseph and Christina Frank.
An investigation showed that the fire started in the basement beneath the base of the living room fireplace.
Josephson deemed the fire accidental and was the result of a crack in the fireplace that allowed hot embers to come into contact with combustible wood that framed the base. Read more
