Boy, 12, critical after crashing parents' car

hopfully this young boy pulls threw. And learns a lesson

I guess kids whose parents are clueless to what they are doing just have to learn on their own the hard way.

You've either never had kids or are in denial that you didn't monitor them every second of their lives. I was a boy once, raised by very competent and caring parents, and I still did ridiculous things that could have resulted in serious injury or death. Any kid could grab a parent's keys and do this in about 10 seconds. You know nothing of the circumstances, so why do you speak as if you do?

I didn't do ridiculous things - I didn't have guts because my mother would have beat my a*s*s. When I was growing up, doing things like this were not an option at my house. You probably deserved a beating or two and your parents didn't do it, so now you make excuses for kids doing things that could injure or kill other people. Circumstances do not matter - the final outcome does. No excuses.

You were never a boy and I still venture to guess you're not a parent. And considering your view on accidents or mistakes, I pray you never become one. My kid screws up but I choose to love him anyway. Sounds like you didn't have the same luxury with your parents, I'm sorry to hear it.

I know quite a few 12 year olds (some of them boys) who would never consider stealing their parents car. I have chosen not to have children - the people that do, should do it right, or don't do it at all. Making the kids is a whole lot of fun, but raising them is not. Being responsible for a child (another human being) is a choice, not a right. And please stop with the "boys will be boys" - that attitude is why so many young males die from doing stupid c rap. If testosterone is an excuse, then I should be able to go on a shooting spree when I have pms. Girls will be girls, right?

look i was close ta this kid and he doesnt have the best parents in the world... sure he's only twelve and when u think of a twelve year old u still see a child but he acted out for atention. And he was ALWAYS getting in trouble, but him and his family is amazing and no parent deserves ta loose a child... im 14 years old and i cant stand people who dont feel for this family!

I never said that congratulations were in order, I just said that maybe the parties involved in this deserve a little understanding. No matter how "good" they may be, 12-year-olds do not consider the consequences for everything they do. My keys sit on the counter every second that I am home, and I doubt that I've ever explicitly told my son that he is not to drive the car, so according to your standards, I'm a "clueless parent". Maybe you're right, but I don't want to be the one reveling in the injury of a child so I can look down my nose at his "clueless parents". There but for the grace of God go I.

I would hope that if you've raised your son with some boundaries that it wouldn't even cross his mind to steal your car - what if he starts raiding your medicine cabinet and having skittles parties? Teaching boundaries and children knowing there are consequences is the best way.
I was just taught that you don't touch what doesn't belong to you and you respect other people's property. If it belongs to your parents that does not mean it's yours. Those keys did not belong to him and that car did not belong to him. Just think if he went into his parent's closet where they kept a gun. It could have been a lot worse. To simply teach your child from the get go to respect their parent's things and understand what does not belong to them. My mother kept a gun in her closet for many years - I understood that her bedroom and her closet there were off limits. Our society has become way too permissive at the expense of children and their future. There are no boundaries anymore.

I think some of you are pretty ignorant. So I thought I would inform you. This 12 yr old boy flat lined on scene and is in a COMA. HE is likely not going to make it through this, but I will cross my finger and pray to God he can. It sounds like to some of you that he fell down and scraped his knee and he will just have to learn his lesson! That is NOT the case. This a let's hope he wakes up from a coma and isn't permenently brain damaged! This is a serious accident and no matter how neglegent the parent this family (any family) does not deserve what they are going through! It will take a miracle for him to pull through and right now I am praying for exactly that.

So how is that anyone's fault except for the kid and his parents? Sounds like he had brain damage before he took the car. You can't unring a bell. More stupid stuff that I'm supposed to feel bad about.

I don't expect 12 year olds to make their own decisions - that's what PARENTS are for. You can curse me all you want, but the facts are the same. Children suffer and sometimes die way more than I would like see, because of incompetent parents. Maybe to you I am ignorant, but I am still way more intelligent than most people I see in the news.
