Glastonbury Says No Public Hearing On Proposed Cell Tower

The town council has decided not hold a public hearing on a telecommunication tower proposed for a farm along Candlewood Road, unlike some recent tower proposals. Christopher Bird, who lives on Twelve Acre Lane near the proposed 120-foot tower, criticized the council for not holding a public hearing on the proposal in advance of its review by the Connecticut Siting Council later this fall.

Trial Opens In Glastonbury Foster Parent's Sexual Assault Case

A trial began Tuesday for one of two men accused of sexually assaulting boys they adopted through the state Department of Children and Families, with his accuser describing physical and sexual abuse he said he endured from both men over several years. The state had sought to try George Harasz, 51, and Douglas Wirth, 46, together, but their defense attorneys objected and convinced Hartford Superior Court Judge Julia D. Dewey to hold separate trials.

School officials told the board of education Monday that enrollment, especially in the elementary schools and Glastonbury High School, is lower than was projected in December. According to Assistant Superintendent Matthew Dunbar, overall enrollment was down 38 students from the figures predicted in December.
