By ROSE SCHNEIDER Staff Writer McCOMB -- McComb school board voted Friday to hire Meri Skilliter as the new superintendent for McComb School District.

While the missing persons files for Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michele Knight can be stamped "Found" as of last week, other files remain open and unsolved, including a handful of cases in this region.

Local voters resoundingly defeated a school levy that Bowling Green district officials said was needed to offset shrinking state education support, leading a mixed bag of results for school taxes across northwest Ohio at Tuesday's special-election polls.

The Gibsonburg American Legion has selected five Gibsonburg High School juniors to attend the American Legion Buckeye Boys State on June 9-16 at Bowling Green State University.

Ten area residents have been chosen to receive the 10th annual Outstanding Service Awards by Owens Community College's Alumni Association for tremendous contributions to Northwest Ohio's surrounding communities.

Residents of the Gibsonburg Exempted Village School District will decide a request for a 1 percent, 10-year income tax on the May 7 primary election ballot.

Gibsonburg School District hasn't asked voters for a levy since 1994, but declining state revenue has forced the Sandusky County district's hand and it will be looking for a favorable outcome at the ballot box May 7. The district has proposed a 10-year, 1 percent income tax on the ballot.

A.J. Green of Gibsonburg was awarded the Outstanding Firefighter Award, for helping save the lives of bus passengers during a multiple vehicle accident.

Esther Seibert, a resident at Countryside Continuing Care Center, celebrated her 95th birthday April 26.
