Georgetown police search for suspect using fake money

The Georgetown Police Department posted pictures to its Facebook page in an effort to identify a suspect accused of using fake money. The Georgetown Police Department is asking for the public's help in identifying the individual in these pictures and the owner of the vehicle in the picture.

Dr. Catie Swift joins GHS

A fellowship-trained hematology and oncology specialist has joined the medical staffs of Georgetown Memorial Hospital and Waccamaw Community Hospital. Dr. Catie Swift, who practices at Waccamaw Oncology in Murrells Inlet and at the Francis B. Ford Cancer Treatment Center in Georgetown, is also a former assistant professor at Wake Forest Baptist Health.

Body of man found in Georgetown County

An autopsy is planned on the body of a Mount Pleasant man found near a boat landing in Georgetown County. Deputy Coroner Chase Ridgeway tells local media outlets that the body of 58-year-old Leland Victor Leith was found Thursday afternoon near Browns Ferry Landing.

Moncks Corner-based Santee Cooper to supply power to city of Seneca

Seneca plans to switch to the Moncks Corner-based electricity provider in June 2015, when its contract with Southern Power expires, the Anderson Independent-Mail reported Wednesday. The state-owned power utility and Atlanta-based Southern were among five firms bidding on the deal, according to the report.

Coast RTA to pay $2,400 to insure and store bus shelters it no longer owns

Coast RTA will spend $2,400 over the next year to store and insure the bus shelters that sat on its property for seven years while former CEO Myers Rollins tried to find ways to get the 56 shelters put up throughout Horry and Georgetown counties. "Since we don't own the shelters, are we charging the Waccamaw Council of Governments rent?" asked Gary Loftus, a member of Coast's board of directors and an Horry County Council member.

Georgetown artist Suzanne Christian is announced as the winner of the 'Paint Springfield Plantation' Art Competition, hosted by the Cultural Council of Georgetown County. The winning painting, selected by competition judge Ruth Cox, a well-known artist and teacher from Myrtle Beach, depicts some of the magnificent Live Oaks at Springfield Plantation, the home of Dr. and Mrs. J. Howard Stokes, Plantersville community.
