The U.S. Postal Service announced that it plans to close more than 3,000 post office locations throughout the country as email and other paperless communication methods continue to replace old-fashioned snail mail.

A Gabriels woman is facing drunken driving charges after allegedly leaving the scene of a property damage motor vehicle accident.

Lightning caused a serious house fire on Keese Mills Road on Thursday. "A lightning strike hit a tree next to the house, and it went down through the ground and hit the ground wire and up into the house," Paul Smiths-Gabriels Fire Chief Roger Smith said.

Fire and rescue personnel responded to the scene of a structure fire at 384 Swinyer Road in Vermontville early Wednesday morning.

Crews from several area fire departments battled a structure fire in Saranac Lake over the weekend.
