Pedestrian killed in traffic crash
According to reports, a pedestrian was killed in a traffic crash on US 27 South near the Highlands County Line on May 26.

A former principal at Frostproof Middle Senior High School, and former band director in Fort Meade, was passed over last week as the Polk County School Board picked Kathryn LeRoy, a senior administrator in Duval County, as the district's new superintendent.
U.S. 27 death believed to be suicide
U.S. Highway 27 outside Frostproof has claimed another life, this time of a Lake Wales man.
She was born Sept. 15, 1943 in Fort Meade to the late James Clyde and Maggie Louise Thomas; and she was a lifelong resident of the area.
Legislature approves $19 million for Highlands projects
Highlands County will receive about $19.3 million from the Florida Legislature this year to fund five projects: a roof at Archbold, a Fisheating Creek cleanup, a South Florida State College program for adults with disabilities, and about $15.7 million for the college's general budget.
