A 9 - Overnight storms batter portions of the metro south of I-70 A line of strong storms developed early on Saturday, June 18, battering the southern half of the Kansas City metro area and leaving thousands without power.

A levee breach and overtopping near Fortescue, Mo., today prompted the National Weather Service to issue a flash flood warning for the area.

Additional levee failures in northwest Missouri are increasing concerns about the flooding problem in communities along the Missouri River.

Residents in the northwest Missouri community of Craig were given a 48-hour mandatory evacuation order Tuesday as floodwaters from the Missouri River threatened the Holt County town of 300 people.
