Ah yes, the little troll that got his ass handed back to him on the gun board when he tried to belittle those who choose to exercise a right. Not surprised you took your Hitler Youth campaign on the road to other Topix boards.

Ed, you've asked me a bunch of questions, answered them for me, and then used your answers to judge me. That's a clever trick. Now allow me to respond.
If the kissing booth had been a straight event, you're correct, the media would have ignored it. However, it still would have been tacky and inappropriate in my opinion, and I still would have referred to the straights from Dallas running it as "these people" because they would not have been representative of straight people in general, nor of the citizens of Fort Worth.
As a footnote, I hope you checked out the news footage of the kissing booth that was posted on the internet. As it turned out, the sponsoring group was not representative of Fort Worth's LGBTQ community and succeeded only in reinforcing old stereotypes about our community being a bunch of freakish agitators. Hearts and minds were not won over.
Oh.........so because they didn't recieve an "official edorsement" from the Fort Worth L/G community center (just a ref) their group is not valid, should not be recognized, they're trouble makers etc. oh now I see, they are just there to stir things up. What a novel crock of shit you just deleivered. Because it's not observed as this or that?? Yes, I watched the video, read the wirestory and clearly it was just an outragious form of trouble causing gay acivists. It still reinforced what I said previously, why do we have to remain hidden an in the closet when it comes to showing affection?? You can stay back behind your winter coat if you wish, I won't!! I fail to see and I've followed the story where this was such an upraor of an event. All it was was an event to the path of equality, but you and let's not forget the verse quoters who want to make it something terrible. I reaffirm my position that you're not quite all about equality and that's all the little both was trying to support. Fort Worth has a bit longer road to travel yet. I do have a friend that attended and there may have been an over the top kiss or two.......but certainly nothing worse than a straight function, and nothing to incinuate the dgree of agitators as you suggest.

if your gay and disagree with the kissing booth than shame on you! When straight people set up kissing booths no one thinks differently about it, but if you set up a gay kissing booth, everyone all of a sudden has a problem with it. I see from a few comments that people have made who are gay and disagree with it, and all I have to say is stop acting like your on the bad guy's side, and get behind what is right. SHAME ON YOU! THERE IS NOTHING WRONG AND NOTHING TACKY ABOUT A GAY KISSING BOOTH!!!! IT IS TO MAKE A POINT!!! AND THAT IS A FACT!!!

Look, Drama Queen ... I may have delivered a crock, but you're the one who ate it up. You have no idea who I am or what I have helped achieve for the GLBTQ community in Fort Worth, so piss off, girlfriend.

I always find it ironic when someone when California (or any other location) acts as if they know more about my city and my culture than I do after living here 40 years. Why don't you just go get married to your boyfriend? Oh, that's right! You can't! Guess you've got your own business that needs tending to.

Bobby, you're certainly entitled to your opinion, and I mean no disrespect, but I can think of hundreds of better ways to "make a point" about the need for equal rights for GLBTQ persons than to set up a silly "kissing booth".

How about you go introduce yourself to your city councilperson, your state representatives and senator, and your U. S. Congessman and Senators, and explain to them in a calm rational manner why it's important to you that they support total equality for our community? I have, and although my message has been greeted with responses varying from complete support and acceptance to almost rude intolerance, at least I was heard, and not dismissed out of hand for being a public embarrassment or nuisance.

As I said in an earlier post, provoking people never wins their hearts and minds.

That's real smart to let a bunch of homosexual and lezbo's who have anal sex with each other and use strap-ons put something like that there where families bring their little kids to see the old west, eat barbecue and ride the trains. The city council are a bunch of geniuses

Oh, please far from being a Drama Queen, becuse I made a point to speak out on an issue at hand. I know exactly whom you are or more importantly, whom you try to be....that would be more accuartely decribed. Not your girlfriend or anyone elses let's set the record straight on that issue. Because I'm from California the issues are applying to us all, this is really about equality for ALL or is it just your littl social club. For the record yes, I am happily and legally married to my husband and that's all that needs to be said about that, It's legal period. We also happen to have family/realatives that live in Texas, Fort Worth, Dallas, El Paso, Houston San Antonio, so I think that we've got more than a vested interest in suporting the communities at whole. It just seems to me that this is just more about you as a whole than the community as a whole and that it revolves around no one but you, that's a shame. Believe me I know whom you are, what you have done and what you are not

Oh, I see. You're one of the couples who got married in that short time when it was legal in California, so now you no longer care about other same sex couples who are being denied the right to marry in your state. It's all about you.

Because if you really cared about the other couples in California (and across the nation), you'd set up a kissing booth right outside the San Diego Zoo, alert the local media, and then kiss in that booth from 4:00 to 5:00 one Saturday afternoon. Have you done that? I didn't think so. You see, I know whom you are, what you have done and what you are not.

First of all, I'm not convinced that lesbians have anal sex with each other all that often. Just because you do it, don't assume everyone else does it, too.

Secondly, about those families with the little kids ... I guess those include the All-American Moms who are cheating on their third husbands, right? And the All-American Dads who are alcoholics and secretly molesting their daughters? Wonder how many of those All-American little kids were born out-of-wedlock, or are already dealing with sexual orientation issues? Everyone is a member of a family, Joe Blough ... there's no sanctity connected with it.

As a long time Fort Worth resident (39 years) and an open and highly visible gay activist, I am not happy about this.
A kissing booth that promotes Public Displays of Affection is a tacky idea, whether the participants are straight, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, queer, questioning, or otherwise self-identified.
Equal Rights under the Law should never be confused with (or associated with) the ability to be inappropriate in public. I wish the organizers of this non-event would rethink the statement they want to make.
I also wish that the sponsoring group would stay over in Dallas County where (it is rumoured) they are headquartered. Fort Worth and Dallas are completely different cultures. Fort Worth was the first to have legal protections for GLBT citizens passed by our City Council ... several years before Dallas ... and the community here knows how to plan and to accomplish our goals in a manner in keeping with the "Fort Worth Way".
I have to agree with you 100%. I too am a long time Fort Worth resident, a very visible openly gay man, and a highly respected Fort Worth Community Leader. Let me clarify that - I am a Gay man and a Community Leader - not a Gay Community Leader. Big difference there and one that makes all the difference in the world in this City. Learn something.

This little "demonstration" was totally inappropriate. I would be offended if any group staged a "kiss in" at the Stockyards. Irish, Chinese, Democrats...it wouldn't matter. This is not acceptable public behavior.

The "Gay Rights Movement" (whatever that means) has to understand they are selling a product. A product has to be packaged and sold to a demographic. I can not sell the same product in Fort Worth that I can sell in San Francisco with the same packaging. This is the way business works. Politics and PR are business.

No where is this more evidenced than in the Gay Community's ongoing bid for marriage protection rights. We loose state after state and bid after bid. We can't understand why because the polls show that most people are for equal rights and we end up blaming our loss on the organizational powers of the radical Christian right. What we have failed to recognize is that we have not correctly sold our product. People can think you have a great product but you have to entice them to buy it. Voters can think you have a great cause but they have to be enticed to actually vote. We will never make any head-way on this issue until we figure out how to package it in a way that sells. Our opposition knows exactly how to package theirs because they have a firm understanding of their demographic.

The organizers of this event had no clue what they were doing. Their failure to understand this city and the way it works only had the opposite effect of what they were trying to accomplish. This event actually took all of our work in this city for Gay rights back a step or two.

Thanks guys from Dallas. As always - Fort Worth appreciates ya.

If you visit the stockyards with the kids, carry a gun because gays and lesbians are well known for molesting children
A vicious lie! The fact is that statistics show that almost all (more than 90%) of child molesters are straight men. Most child molestations are committed by WHITE straight men. It is far more dangerous to take your kids to the stockyards with a bunch of drunk straight, white cowboys than it would be to take them to a Gay bar.

I'm a Gay man and I was molested as a child by a straight man. You may try to claim that this is the reason I'm Gay. I knew I was Gay before any of that ever happened.

You discredit yourself when you make statements that are based in hate rather than fact. You might as well be molesting me yourself for trying to invalidate a horrible thing that happened to me as a child.

If you are not going to take the time to know what you are talking about then shut the hell up. All you are doing is promoting lies and hate. So much for your strong christian and family values.

There are many misconceptions about the Gay and Lesbian community. If you want to make more informed decisions, I suggest you start here: http://www.trincoll.edu/prog/safezone/Facts.h...

Very insightful and most eloquently stated. I couldn't agree with you more. The recent debacle in Maine affirms the concept you explained about "packaging". The hypocrites and fearmongers dragged out the old chestnut about homosexuality being taught and advocated in schools, and their audience ate it right up and voted accordingly.

There are lots of voters in Fort Worth who worry about Public Displays of Affection in the Stockyards ... and now, thanks to a bunch of perhaps well-intentioned but clueless "activists" from "Queer Liberaction" in Dallas, those voters have had their worst nightmares come true. Next time they're motivated to act, I hope they keep in mind these words of wisdom: "Don't just do something, sit there!"

Oh what a grasping act you have become, but hey that's OK you don't seem to realize that you're placing your narrow view point by taking away or elinating the choise for others, it's not just about what "you think or believe" that's what equality is all about the freedom for all, but that's OK that's what works in your closeted world of reality that's OK, just let the rest of us make and have our our choice.........by showing PDA it's not taking away anything from anyone, a few words come to mind, tolerance, acceptance, unconditional, period!! Kind of reminds me of a state I traveled through; there's a little saying, "Look, I've been to Arkansas, and you walk among us!!" Good luck to 'ya!!

Ed, the flame war is over. We disagree. Fine. The fact that we're both gay doesn't mean we share the same values, or that we share the same vision of what real equality means or looks like.
I hope when the dust settles, we both get what we're fighting for.

Good luck to you on your journey.

Get organized because that's the best way to be productive today. You're eager to be as efficient and practical as possible, but you won't get very far if you don't know what to do first. So draw up a list of priorities and start with the most urgent. Ideally, you should be left to your own devices while you do all this because that will aid your concentration and self-confidence.
