A historic site in Montgomery County that suffered severe damage last year due to Tropical Storm Irene reopened for the season on Wednesday.

The New York State Barge Canal has opened for its 188th navigation season after a turbulent season last year that included extensive damage from tropical storms Irene and Lee.

The director of the New York State Canal Corp. says his agency is still interested in moving some or all of its operation to the Guy Park Manor once the historic structure is repaired.

The director of the New York State Canal Corp. came to Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site on Friday to announce the awarding of a $95,000 grant and to lead a work crew helping to clean up the site.
