Donnelly's late pitch facing long odds in Fitchburg's '09 mayoral race

Full story: Sentinel & Enterprise

Former longtime Fitchburg City Councilor E. Thomas Donnelly made the surprise announcement Tuesday night that he was running a sticker campaign against incumbent Mayor Lisa Wong in Tuesday's election, giving him just one week to run his long-shot campaign.

Honestly, can this man be taken seriously when this kind of stunt is pulled? He has no chance, and it makes him look pretty foolish to have acted in this manner, at this late hour. There is a reason, in spite of the vitriol spewed at the Mayor during these past years, that nobody has launched a serious campaign against her. The economic situation in this city is bleak, and the state and national situation has simply compounded that. It is a tough job managing through these times, Ms. Wong has done an admirable job throughout, with little popular support. My hats off to her, and she'll get my vote, again. We are lucky to have someone in that office who gets things done, and would be far worse off were it Mr. Donnelly, or anyone else we had to choose from in there. Keep up the good work Lisa!

Any serious candidate would have and should have launched a proper and legal campaign. A last minute write-in campaign smacks of something underhanded and sneaky and indicates how that person woud behave in a management position. The previous mayor operated in this manner and it did not serve the community. I would not support a candidate who pulled stunts such as this.

It seems to me Donnelly is still upset about getting smoked in the last election. Lisa has done a great job and we need to continue to attract new blood to run the city. If Conry, Kaddy, Boisvert are'nt on board to support these changes they need to go. Donnelly is a slumlord and part of the problem why Fitchburg has such a bad reputation.

The Donnellys are slum lords. Their interests are not in what is best for the city, but what is best for the Donnellys. I am surprised they are still active in Fitchburg; they would have been run out of another town a heck of a lot sooner. Shun them, don't rent from them, kind of a white trash group if you ask me.

The truth, and Tom said it himself 2 years ago, is that he really doesn't know what to do to fix the city. His solution is to put together a financial (yes, number crunchers!) team to figure it out and advise him. And then he'll decide what to do. Will they be volunteers or does he pay them out of his vast campaign chest? Either way, they certainly won't have a heart (OMG! That's what the current mayor is being accused of!) and can't possibly scrounge up any more money. And eventually (people being people) they'll start working their own agendas and give him biased advice, based on what they personally need. GAWD!

The intelligent people of Fitchburg can see through this game he is playing. He wants to keep his name out there.
I can't believe he thinks the people of Fitchburg won't remember that HE was part of the Mylott years and never knew what to do about our problems at that time. He still has no clue.
He has alwasy been a "player" for his "own" good.
He started with HUD years ago and while working for HUD got himself plenty of properties. He worked at that business like everything else in his life. SLOPPY.
Lisa Wong has worked hard to dig this city out of a financial mess left behind by Mylott, Donnelly, Conry and Boisvert.
I can tell you this, on the day of the last election, I (first hand) overheard Norman Boisvert tell Pat at the coffee shop in cleghorn that
"Wong thinks she is going to change things, but she will not and she will be in for a big surprise.
Well Mr Boisvert, even with every way that you have tried to derail her...she has still done an outstanding job of getting us out of your mess.
We are heading in the right direction, please voters of Fitcbhurg, don't be fooled by the Tom Foolerys of this group.

I think Mayor Wong has done an exemplary job. When you need to cut expenses you must just do it and she has. I think if she doesn't win this election I'm going to find a home in another town. I put a light sensor on my front yard spot light to help keep the dark away and it stays on all night. Quit yer belly aching Fitchburg residents. Do something positive.

Anyone who was serious about running for mayor would have launched a serious campaign and courted votes.
I WILL NOT VOTE AGAIN FOR WONG, nor will I support Donnelly.
I hate to see her back in office so I probably will just not vote for mayor, since Vosine hasn't seriously campaigned either.
It's a shame we don't have a good alternative to Wong.

The fact is there is no money for all of the things that Lisa Wong has unfortunately had to cut. Complaining about it or wanting more input in the process does not change the truth. We would be SO MUCH worse off if Mr. Donnelly had been elected. His head is in the sand, he had inside interests and with this weird last minute run, we now know he is unstable and ill-advised.

Why would we vote someone in as Mayor that can't handle his own personal finances. My hope is that there are enough intelligent voters in this city to realize Mayor Wong is our only hope. She may have made some tough decisions that don't sit well the with "old timers" in this city, but she did what she had to do. And I commend her for ALL of it. I'll be voting for Mayor Wong, again.

What happened to the wacky one that's suing the city? Compared to her we have three great choices.
