So, hoopla takes priority over disabled people's safety. Something wrong here.

Hey Wes? Lighten up, will you? Handicapped accessing the building over the 4th weekend? They are putting the thing back up after the race?? Somehow you had to know, people would find SOMETHING wrong with anyting this city does, even trying to look better for the event??!! How long before we all get fed up with the complaining and second guessing a small minority of citizens in this community enjoy voicing, and just tell them to shut up and get a life? We are in the worse economic situation ever experienced in this city, and no amount of belly aching or crying in your beer is going to make that change. Suck it up, pull yourself together, and be a productive member of the solution, not a stone throwing chucker from the cheap seats....

Okay, but how much money was wasted, first for materials and time to have it installed, now to tear it down, and again to have it put back until the real ramp is completed?
In addition, I think it makes the city look ridiculous, all for the sake of a few nice pictures. It is what it is. How about cleaning up the blight in the rest of the city? This really shows where the priorities lie. Make it look good.....perception is everything.... for outsiders. The rest of us know what it is really like in this town. Not a fairy tale.

It is being done at no cost by the contractor, who is late delivering the permanant ramp. Win/win....

The building is CLOSED the entire time the ramp will be down! So no one, handicap or otherwise will have a need to access it!

It's very positivie when it's against whining idiots.

You know, like those that complain about being denied access to a locked door on a closed building for a couple days once in a lifetime.

I'll take my right to crab any day.

This city never seems aware of how silly it looks. It's all-important that in front of City Hall looks great for the race. Again, I ask, what about the rest of the city? I think of people seeing those great pictures and wanting to come here. Then I think of them getting here and thinking "Wow, this place sure is NOTHING like the photos" and wondering why they even bothered. I've had that experience more than once when traveling. Some places live up to their PR, but a lot of them do not. I never return to the ones that don't, but do spend time and money to return to the ones that really have something to offer.

Photos that market the city to outsiders will only bring them in once. We need something in this city that will make people want to stay.

Finally, some one with a good answer...a "temporary ramp" is not allowed in a public building...or in a residence built with a legal building permit. My suggestion is to get the permanent ramp installed soon, so the contractor will not have to do the work 3 times. This is a non issue that should not have even been reported. The Sentinel is too close to City Hall.

If I may further your comment concerning the blight that the city of Fitchburg has become... I think they should have left the ugly plywood ramp protruding from the entrance to the most important building in the city, that being City Hall. It might garnish some sympathy on the part of our legislators on Beacon Hill, and result in more state funds being directed Fitchburg's way. Too bad for the missed opportunity, since Fitchburg will now be portrayed as picturesque little town with a beautiful downtown. As you noted "Cost;" reality will set in when out-of-towners come and see the reality for themselves.

I think it is a great idea to take down that ugly ramp. I think Fitchburg must have the ugliest city hall entrance in the state. That door, just installed, is hidious.

Your an idiot. Trying to make something out of nothing. In case you weren't aware, City Hall is closed on July 4th. Just like most businesses. On Monday July 6th, the ramp will be back, at no cost to the city so you can roll right on in.

get a life!

You people are all so moronic, it really is a waste of your time to complain about this. THE CITY HALL IS CLOSED DURING THE TIME THE RAMP WILL BE DOWN! So just go find something else to complain about - will ya? There is no access to the building for the general public during this time anyways - handicapped or not.

Quit making sense, will ya. It irritates the ignorant liberal "its all about me" crowd that can't take the time to read the entire article, or even think that this will be going on during a HOLIDAY WEEKEND when the freaking place is closed anyway.

Daily Horoscope for December 30

Cancer

Discussions and meetings go really well today because you're finding it easy to put your thoughts into words. You'll also show that you respect other people's viewpoints even if they don't coincide with your own. It's a good day for making domestic plans, and some of these will be quite ambitious without being unrealistic or far-fetched.
