A tornado ripped through Haralson County just north of Buchanan on March 2; one of the most powerful storms to hit the area in a year, yet causing only one serious injury and causing major damage to only a few buildings.

A severe thunderstorm skirted Polk County Friday night, with reports of a few trees downed in the southern part of the county, but no structural damage.

Updated 8:45 p.m. The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for Cherokee, Cobb and Paulding counties, effective until 9:40 p.m. A collapsed house is being reported in Haralson County in the storm's trail, and 11Alive says people on the ground west of Dallas reported seeing a tornado.

On Wednesday, December 28, 2011, Polk County police arrested Randal Fred Shuemake , age 52 of McKibben Road in Felton, Ga.; on multiple charges related to the operation of a chop shop.
