How stupid can you be to open something so pricey, knowing that people right now can't afford it. I give the place maybe 6 months before it goes under.

How insane are those prices, just for someone to tell you how to eat right, and do your sit-ups.. DUHHH

I wish her luck but in this economy, it is strange that people cannot figure out how to work out at home , or at the beach,to a DVD or just walk in their neighborhood for free every day. Self control , and watching your diet are key along with excercise. This cost nothing. Her services are much to expensive.

If you're not doing Crossfit you are wasting your time. $100 a month for all the classes you want, and the most scientific approach to overall core strength on the planet.

Are you sure $100 is the rate? When I looked online it was $150 per month per person. Yeah, not that much of a difference, but for a person on a budget, even $100 is a stretch for me.

I would AGREE, except that even now I see people prancing around in gyms with their own PERSONAL TRAINERS. Even when times are tough, high-end personal service businesses can do well if they hook into the people who NEVER HAVE MONEY PROBLEMS.

I mean, isn't this place right around the corner from that HOITY-TOITY CAFE where you can spend ten or twelve bucks for a CHEESE SANDWICH?

Crossfit is freaky actually. I know many very very in shape people who cannot do crossfit. What do they offer for beginners? I am not trying to repeat the "double days" from high school sports.

Many of the tenets of Crossfit were not created by them, and are also offered by experienced personal trainers without the fanatical, almost conspiracy theory lunacy.

Its hard to imagine paying that much to get fit with all of the other options we have available for less and/or free in Santa Cruz. Nonetheless, I admire Jamie's optimism and hope she is correct in her assumption that even though the vast majority of us would not be able to afford this kind of approach that there are enough people out there with plenty of expendable income still who will become her clients.

She is just a few of the dumb kinds of students UCSC creates. What a dumb idea for a business, especially right now. She deserves to lose that loan in a few months when she has to shit her doors down.

LOL, community studies. People actually pay to be taught this stuff? What a waste.

Actually, starting a business in a down market isn't dumb. That's when you have your money cushion to get started, and when the economy picks up your business is the one left standing.

I hope her business succeeds and grows. Many people need a trainer to get started. So many of you are full of bile, maybe you need to spend less time at the keyboard and more time exercising!

I have faith in you and your business and think you will succeed, despite the fact that I cannot afford it. Hopefully, you accept medical insurance for rehab. That is one client base.

I just want to say after reading a few of these comments people obviously don't know who they are talking about! I went to school with Jaime and she is the furthest thing from dumb. Yes, it is expensive but if you have ever been hurt you would realize the value of having someone to help get you back into shape. The energy, drive and determination to open your own business at 27 makes Jaime a role model. How dare people try to bring her down, what happened to encouraging the dreams of others? Besides the bank that gave her the loan obviously didn't think she was a bad risk or they would have given her the money. Jaime, keep your head up you are going to be very successful!!!!!!!!!!

Opening something like this in this type of economy? What kind of dumb things is UCSC teaching their students to have them thinking people will actually spend hundreds of dollars on "training" Sure, you will have a small pool of clients, but that is not what a business like this lives off of.

Sorry Jamie, but looks like you should have taken some business administration courses instead of a joke of community studies.

Also to that commenter that the bank must have thought it was a viable cause.....banks DO mistake and give tons of loans to people who have good business plans in writing, but when they start it up, its a mess. This is no exception, mark my words, this type of service cannot survive, and with this horrible economic mess, its not a issue of if it will survive, but when.

Whomever approved her loan just lost the bank thousands of dollars.

Jaimi is really smart and according to the article, has gotten good advice. A double-major in biochem and community studies is pretty impressive, as is coming back from an accident. I hope she succeeds--this business offers a real alternative. I'm not sure why so many people commenting need to be surly--if she can make it work, wonderful. I'd sure rather see people spend money on their health than many other things.
