Since most of these kids will get educated either way (new building or not), the largest impact of this program will be felt by those who get hired and receive the 30 million. More important than the schools is to make sure the money is spent in park county.
If this goes through and the money is spent out of the county, we have passed up a unique opportunity. Now that being said. I would like part of the law to state that the parents of the very few children here should have to thank at least one other non-child taxpayer at least once a week. Or how about if my taxes are going up by $100 that all parents taxes go up by $200. The reality is that the community will never recoup this $, unless it is spent locally. 90% of the kids will leave and the ones that don't are the least likely to use the education to the max. This actually does not make economic sense unless $ is spent locally. I urge you to call your local officials and demand the money be spent locally as this is more important than high school track fields, which my high school did not have and did just fine. If we are going to have them, let's make sure locals put them in. Again, spending the money in the community is more important than improving the schools which will educate either way. So I say, vote yes, but only if they commit to spending the $ locally, if not this is just a way to get a new fancy building, that is clearly already overpriced, when objectives could clearly be achieved at a lower cost with renovations. 30 million is too much to spend to educate around 200 kids. With 30 million we could buy dozens of ranches, with plenty of fields, houses to teach in, and activities to learn from. If there is no commitment to spend the $ locally, why should the locals spend anything on it? The fact that where the $ is going to spent is not a part of the overwhelming mailing and info campaign and that none of the volunteers can tell you where the $ will be spent is shameful. Again where the $ will be spent is more important than the building! |

Also let's stop playing the game....by this I mean if the facilities do not meet current standards for use (building codes, etc.) which is a big part of the justification for the new buildings...then the kids should not be allowed to use the facilities...even one more hour. Wouldn't it be easier to get 3A passed if the schools were just condemned, as the supporters would have us believe is just around the corner.
I know they are closed at the moment because these same local parents who want all of our $ don't have enough respect for the community to keep their kids home as they are sick. There needs to be balance and some more appreciation and respect from parents to the community. The community is NOT just here for their kids. One parent tells me they are willing to donate even just $100 extra to the school system vs. us non child taxpayers that are extorted into paying (or you will take our home away, literally)...and I will vote yes and march up and down main st. asking others to do the same, otherwise what is up? |
