About time. How much Money did they line peoples pockets with On what 65 students in the one. 40 in another.

What a joke. At taxpayers expense.

Maybe we should fund One room schoolhouses Like they had on little house on the prairie.

Those kids got lots of One on One attention. So they must all be A plus students now right???

OR are they Complaining about large classes and the normal complaints teachers always come up with.

The charter school idea is, on the face of it, innocent enough. However, it is a train wreck waiting to happen.

It's bad enough that public schools are struggling to keep students engaged in learning.
An alternative system that has no previous of experience has to reinvent the wheel in order to deal with the increasingly complex lives many students are living. Parents working two or three jobs, emotional chaos at home, some with adults with illnesses and drug problems is bound to be even less effective.
We will see in less than five years how constructive the charter school idea has been.
Just my opinion

It is about time, funding should have been stopped a long time ago for Charter Schools. It is a shame they are not held accountable by test scoresor, orlack of; but at least they are now being held accountable because of their financial records. This school in particular should have been shut down last year, giving alcohol to minors should never be permitted.

Ashe Culture Center is an Ohio Department of Education (Community Schools Division) sponsor mandated to monitor Phoenix Village Academy. It is the responsibility of the sponsor, Ashe, to assure this community school’s records are in order. Ashe is also to oversee the educational programs to assure the students are receiving an appropriate education. Phoenix Village Academy does not report its test scores because in the testing groups/grades there are not enough students. It is to Phoenix Village Academy’s advantage to maintain a small number of students; in doing so, the Academy can provide a questionable education with limited resources and limited accountability. One of the founders of Ashe was the individual who fed four sixth grade students gin. The Ohio Department of Education accepted the founder’s apology. I suspect that if this had occurred in an Ohio public school district, the school employee, who demonstrated such poor judgment, would have been unemployed. It appears that the standards for Phoenix Village Academy are so low that the founder(s) of Ashe can do whatever they want in the name of educating students about the African culture.
Maybe the State Auditor’s Office will be able to scare Ashe straight. I expect Ashe to stay in business because there is too much money being collected, especially from Phoenix Village Academies.(Cleveland, Akron) It is unfortunate that the parents have settled for the mis-education of their children. It is shameful that the Ohio Department of Education (Community Schools Division) cannot find a way to monitor the sponsor Ashe. It is disgraceful that no one seems to care that the students are not being taught the educational standards mandated by the Ohio Department of Education. Worst of all, the public is unaware of student achievement at Phoenix Village Academies (Cleveland, Akron) The students are the losers, not the taxpayers!
