Cotton farmers haven't made a profit since the 1950s when cotton was about the same price as now. Cotton farmers are just another class of welfare recipients. Without farm subsidies they would have gone under decades ago. The only difference:Farmers, unlike most soup-line bums, are arrogant, anti-immigration-law enforcement or any kind of law enforcement. They exploit and abuse illegal aliens (males and females) and delve into other illegal activities near the border. Some of the most amoral people I have ever seen are so-called farmers down around Fabens who parade under the guise of respectability.

Farm subsidies are a drain on our treasury. If the failed farmers can't compete, kick them out of their delusions of respectability and force them into the regular unsophisticated and undignified welfare lines where the redneck hicks have always belonged. That's what they did in Caldwell's "Tobacco Road." They couldn't cope with reality and perished rather than join the ranks of the ones they once looked down upon.

Ha... You sure sound like a "FARMER." Like you said; an arrogant, anti-immigration-law enforcer, trash talking hick. Local farming is what helps small towns like Fabens, but your assumptions are not surprising.

Daily Horoscope for December 26

Capricorn

Mercury retrograde in your sign will cause some friction between you and other people during coming weeks. Matters that have been bubbling away in the background will come to the boil, forcing you to do something about them. Try not to overreact, nor to create a crisis out of something that's really very minor. You should also keep a strong sense of fair play and pay attention to every little detail.
