An Elyria man accused of selling fentanyl and heroin has pleaded guilty to federal charges that will likely lead to a 20-year prison sentence. Siarres Noble, 29, had been accused of selling fentanyl to an Elyria woman last year that caused her death when she overdosed on the drug, according to the office of U.S Attorney for Northern Ohio Steven Dettelbach.

UPDATED: Crews rescue man trapped in trench

Scott Atkinson, 34, of Elyria, who works for Concrete and More Waterproofing, was working in a yard at 581 Georgetown Ave., at about 10 a.m. when the 12-foot trench he was in collapsed around him. Atkinson climbed up a ladder from the hole on his own, and received a kiss from his wife, who was at the scene, before being taken to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center.

Troopers from the Elyria post of the state Highway Patrol are investigating an incident that occurred at 10:49 a.m. today on U.S. 20, east of Ohio 58 in Lorain County's Pittsfield Township. Troopers responding to the incident learned a man had been traveling westbound on U.S. 20 when he pulled his vehicle to the berm.

Elyria man killed, woman hospitalized after Carlisle Township crash

One man died and one woman was hospitalized after a car crashed and rolled over early Monday in Carlisle Township. Harold L. Brown, 31, of Elyria, was killed in the 1:32 a.m. crash on West River Road north of Russia Road, the State Highway Patrol said in a statement.

County officials seek reversal of judges' funding request

ELYRIA - The Lorain County commissioners on Friday asked the Ohio Supreme Court to strike down a court order issued by county Common Pleas Judge James Burge last month requiring them to fund security upgrades for the county's Adult Probation Department. Burge's order gave the commissioners until today to furnish $124,953 to county Sheriff Phil Stammitti to pay for manpower and equipment to provide security screenings at the entrances to the old Lorain County Courthouse and the old Columbia Gas Building.

Suspect facing felony charges in Elyria Twp. bank robbery

A 31-year-old Bay Village man has been indicted on felony charges of bank robbery for a July 14 robbery of Lorain National Bank on North Ridge Road. A grand jury elected to charge Robert T. Gauna with the federal offense after hearing how he allegedly walked into the bank, pulled out a gun and ordered the teller to give him all the $10 bills in the cash drawer.
