The Obamas' Portuguese water dog is in almost every room of the ground and State floors, ranging from a miniature licorice and marshmallow version to a felt design four-and-a-half feet tall.

Elsmore Ruritan Club will sponsor a soup supper Saturday at the Elsmore community building from 5 to 7 p.m. Club members will serve chili and broccoli/cheese soup and vegetable soup, plus crackers, dessert and a drink for a free-will donation.

John Starliper, age 58, of Savonburg, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011 at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute, Kansas.

The 41st annual Elsmore Rural-Town Day, sponsored by Elsmore Ruritan Club, will be held Saturday.

The family of Galen and Marita Bigelow will host a celebration of the couple's 50th wedding anniversary on June 5, 2010, from 1-3 p.m., at the Buck Run Community Center, 735 Scott St., Fort Scott, Kan.
