Police in Elmwood Place say a registered sex offender is to blame for assaulting two girls in an attack that forced a neighbor to have to step in to defend them.

Officers say a man was shot in the chest in the 6500 block of Hasler Lane around 1 a.m. The victim ran to a home in the 6400 block of Elmwood Avenue for help.

A Cincinnati Police dog managed to bring a shooting suspect to officers early Thursday morning, by dragging the man out of a drain pipe in which he was hiding.
