Jefferson Parish residents will have two chances next week to comment on proposed changes to the parish charter, including a ban on outside income for the parish president, before a volunteer committee sends the recommendations to the Parish Council .

The Jefferson Parish Council meets Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Elmwood to consider a 122-item agenda , including whether to ask voters this fall to reconsider their rejection of tax proposals for water and sewerage.

A festering feud between some members of the Jefferson Parish Council and President John Young was on display during Thursday's emergency council meeting in Elmwood.

Jefferson Parish President John Young's administration is saying it did enough t publicize tax proposals for water and sewerage that voters defeated May 4. Council members have criticized the administration's role.

The Jefferson Parish Charter Advisory Board ended Monday its review of the parish's main law, setting up public hearings May 20 and 23.

Early voting for the May 4 elections continues this week . On the ballot are a judgeship runoff in East Jefferson and four property tax renewals.
