A century-old building that housed a Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Ellsworth was destroyed by a fire and likely won't be rebuilt, the post's commander said.

Fire destroyed the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6485 Friday morning in downtown Ellsworth, but firefighters were able to contain the blaze.

For the second time in less than a year, a major fire struck downtown Ellsworth, this time leaving the town's VFW building little more than a limestone shell.
