New Court For Theft Against Alleged Imposter
Baltimore County prosecutors have filed to move the robbery case against an alleged armored car guard imposter from District Court to Circuit Court.
Prosecutors cited the complexity of the case for the decision. A trial date for 38-year-old Robert Flanagan has not been set.
The York County, Pa., man was originally scheduled to go on trial Monday in District Court.
Flanagan is accused of taking $72,000 in deposits from a Target store in Baltimore County in October, and faces a separate trial in Howard County for the similar theft of nearly $200,000 from an Ellicott City bank. Read more

“I've worked at every firehouse in the last month”
Lt. Thomas Gerber didn't know what to make of the round of handshakes and congratulations that greeted him last month at the door for the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue awards ceremony.

'He's very dependable, solid as a rock,' said Lt. Chris Alliger, who nominated Gerber for the award and called him 'one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet.' Read more

Old Baltimore family vows investment in city's future
“There was always a sense of pride about the history of the family in Baltimore”
Carey Street, named after 18th-century port merchant, councilman and Quaker abolitionist James Carey, runs through some of the most challenged neighborhoods of West Baltimore.
A mile and a half east in the downtown commercial district stands the gleaming Johns Hopkins Carey Business School, which is celebrating this week the inauguration of its first dean, thanks to a $50 million gift in 2006 from William Polk Carey, the merchant's great-great-great-grandson.
The New Yorker's commitment to his hometown and family legacy does not end there. The 77-year-old real estate financier said yesterday that he wants to help restore the city to the commercial glory his forebears knew and intends a major bequest that could permanently ensure that the Carey name is once more associated with Baltimore's economic revival.
