Teen pilot killed in Elkmont crash had flying experience, attended aviation school
An 18-year-old pilot who died Saturday when his single-engine plane crashed not far from his family's Elkmont home had flying experience and was a student in flight school, according to friends and family.

Mom says teen pilot killed in crash loved flying
<![CDATA[ELKMONT, Ala. (AP) -- A north Alabama woman whose son died in a weekend plane crash says the teenager loved flying. Pam Loggins tells WAAY-TV (http://bit.ly/1eH4tOb ) that her 18-year-old son, Nick Loggins, planned to major in aviation mechanics in college. Loggins says her son loved flying and began learning how to fly at the age of 15. She says he got his pilot's license two years later. A single-engine aircraft piloted by the youth went down Saturday afternoon in Elmont, running into a house after hitting the ground. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating. The teen's family bought Loggins the aircraft in October. He took off from Pryor Field near Decatur before the crash. Pam Loggins says she's comforted by knowing that her son died doing something he loved.
