A 78-year-old man from El Lago on Thursday credited the Galveston Beach Patrol for rescuing him after he drove into the Gulf of Mexico and found himself trapped in his car in 8 feet of water.

El Lago has become the latest to ban smoking in public areas. The ban includes restaurants, schools, and day cares.
