An Effort man who pleaded guilty to committing burglaries and other crimes in the West End rescinded his guilty plea at what should have been his sentencing Wednesday in Monroe County Court.

A former northeastern Pennsylvania prison guard has been formally sentenced to death in the murder of his live-in girlfriend and their 18-month-old son.

A Monroe County man was sentenced to die Tuesday. Michael Parrish gunned down his girlfriend Victoria Adams, 21, and their toddler son Sydney in their Effort home in 2009.

A jury convicted Michael Parrish in March and later decided that Parrish should die for his crimes.

Police said they charged Kevin Fitzgerald Jr., 25, of Pocono Lake, with 43 counts of possession of child pornography, and Jeffrey Land, 40, of Effort, with 25 counts.
