Menards expects early 2015 opening

Construction of a new home improvement store along Elm Road here may appear to passers-by as if it's soon ready to open, but several months of work still remain on the structure, company officials said. A spokesman for the new Menards store said the company does not expect to open here until early next year.

Man accused of sexually assaulting girl will serve time in prison

The criminal complaint says McDonnell and the girl communicated through Facebook and sent explicit messages back and forth. The girl told investigators McDonnell picked her up from her Eau Claire home and the two drove to Pepin County where they had sex.

Federal officials are proposing a $70,000 fine for a Wisconsin manufacturing plant after a machine crushed a worker's hand and partially amputated his thumb. The U.S. Department of Labor said Thursday Loparex LLC has been cited for one safety violation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

A judge has denied a request for release from the man police say killed his neighbor with a crowbar in 2012. Eau Claire County District Attorney Gary King said the ruling came Thursday morning in Eau Claire regarding a conditional release petition from James Olson, 53. A similar request was denied in December 2013.

Gerald J. Gebhard, 85, of Green Bay, passed away Aug. 30. Born Nov. 13, 1928 in Chippewa Falls, to Benjamin and Eleanor Gebhard, on Feb. 20, 1954 he married Carol Kelley at St. Patrick's Church in Eau Claire and she preceded him in death on June 30, 1996.

Eau Claire woman hurt in bike race passes away

According to an update posted on her CaringBridge website Wednesday, 58-year-old Cheri Uelmen died around 12:20 a.m. She is saving many lives by donating her organs. There were some delays with the transplant, but family members write, "Cheri is now in the wind and going to help others, her last race is won and her mission nearly complete."

Propane dealers try to head off another shortage

Propane dealers said Monday they hope to head off a repeat of last winter's supply crisis in Wisconsin by adding more storage tanks, keeping homeowners' tanks full and urging more customers to lock into delivery contracts. Wisconsin and other upper Midwestern states grappled with a pronounced propane shortage during the second half of the 2013-14 winter due largely to prolonged frigid weather, a pipeline closure and heavy demand for propane to dry crops during an unusually late harvest.

One person rescued after swimming in Chippewa River

A close call on the river ends safely for two college students after one of them had to be rescued from the Chippewa River in Eau Claire. Eau Claire Fire and Rescue crews could be seen on the river Sunday evening after they got a call of a missing swimmer from Putnam Rock near the UW-Eau Claire campus.

Police looking for suspects in stolen, recovered sculpture

On June 20, 2014, a sculpture was removed without permission from its pedestal in the 400 block of Water Street. The sculpture, which is part of Sculpture Tour Eau Claire, is titled "Rock and Roll" and is valued at $6,300.
