Canton To Hire Columbia Official As Next Administrator

The board of selectmen voted unanimously Wednesday to hire Robert Skinner, Columbia's town administrator and a former first selectman in Suffield, as Canton's next chief administrative officer.

Canton First Selectman Dick Barlow said Skinner's experience as an elected official and professional administrator made him the obvious choice.

'I think we were really impressed with his management skills,' Barlow said.

Skinner, 44, also had a law office in Canton, O'Conner and Skinner, from 1991 until 1997, when he was elected as a Republican to be first selectman in Suffield.

It's a pity that we couldn't hire someone from town for this position, but in retrospect, it's probably a good thing. We need someone that isn't caught up in the "Politics as Usual" in town.(Know what I mean, Mary?)

All the best to Mr. Skinner. You're going to need it. I hope you like Bahres and Baseball.

I guess you don't believe in hiring the most qualified candidate (unless living in town is the most important qualification for running the town - in that case I guess Matt Barhe would be the front runner).
