East Brunswick finance officer explains pension system/problem

Full story: The Jersey Journal

The man who knows all that's fiscally wrong with New Jersey is L. Mason Neely, an authority on the state's public pension system/problem. He's the guy I turn to when I'm looking for answers," said Jon Moran, the senior legislative analyst for the League of Municipalities.

l mason neely is no friend to the public employee at ALL....it is not the public employee's fault such as police, firefighter, or teacher that the pay and pension is the way it is....first of all police and firefighters pay 8.5 % a paycheck into the fund, so its not like they are just taking and not contributing....second of all, you would not have the quality of candidates filling these positions if the benefits werent at least attractive....salaries arent going to make any cop, teacher or firefighter rich, but they will live a comfortble lifestyle and have good benefits, INCLUDING a pension...they took the job for those reasons NOT to be rich...and i never any cop teacher or firefighter complaining back in the late 80s and 90s when the private industry was booming and people were there were making 90-250000k a year while the top salary for a cop was around 50 or 60 and teachers considerably the same as well as firefighters.....now all of a sudden we are in a recession and every politician and numnut who got fired from their 300k a year job and took a 500k 5/1 arm mortgage thats defaulting are crying about public service....my a$$...thats a load...oh and lets take a look at what l mason neely made last year:IN 2008 he brought home a whooping $166,180!!! Only god knows what he made this year...plus he gets a reimbursed for his miles driving TO and FROM work!!!! what a joke....who milking the taxpayers??? plus east brunswick and many other towns have deferred pension payments into the police and fire pension for some time...which means that the money police have been putting in has been taken and used somewhere else for the town's benefit!!! heres the link to neely's salary:
