UPDATE A crash in the northbound lane of Interstate 5 that caused a three mile backup Tuesday morning has been cleared and all lanes are open.

A 27-year-old man was charged Tuesday with assaulting his girlfriend Sunday on Interstate 5 in DuPont and authorities say items found during his arrest indicate he might be responsible for burglaries in the area.

Washington State Patrol troopers arrested a man late Sunday after he allegedly injured a woman while in a car on Interstate 5. The two had reportedly argued after he got lost and drove to the State Patrol scale house off northbound I-5 near DuPont, trooper Guy Gill reported.

Monisha Gulabani of Eastlake High School in Sammamish, Wash., and Fred Lu of Skyview High School in Vancouver, Wash., were named Wednesday as 2012 U.S. Presidential Scholars.
