Major Stock Indexes Fade At The Close

The major stock indexes saw their rebound attempt lose momentum during the final 30 minutes of the trading day Tuesday.
The Nasdaq which had ventured into positive territory earlier in the afternoon, finished nearly flat. The S&P 500 and the Dow each closed down 0.6%.
Preliminary readings showed volume was a bit heavier on both the NYSE and the Nasdaq than it had been on Monday.
