OSU Extension Office offering Canola Field Tour on Monday
The Harmon and Jackson County OSU Extension Offices are offering a Canola Field Tour on Monday, April 9, at the Kearld Searcy farm, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Directions to the field site are 4.5 miles west of Duke to county road 186, turn south and go 3 miles, then turn back west for .75 miles and the field is on the south side of the road.
Black wounded soldiers taken off field first
Dr. Alex P. Heickhold, the surgeon who was helping to direct the removal of the wounded Union troops, deliberately left wounded white soldiers behind as he loaded the injured black troops on to ambulances.
