After nearly a decade of service to the Town of Drexel, Town Manager Matt Settlemyer is leaving his post.

What used to be a gas station years ago in Drexel is now the site of an urban park, complete with an amphitheater.

"I waited for 15 years to get one date," the East Burke High School sophomore and Drexel native said.

When narcotics officers tried to apprehend a Morganton man after what appeared to be a drug deal, the suspect left the scene in his vehicle and then tried to flee on foot.
