Log truck kills man sweeping debris after minor wreck
A man helping police clear debris after a minor highway accident was hit and killed by a log truck, and a deputy looking for the log truck was in another crash.
Officers directing traffic around the first accident's wreckage ordered the log truck's driver to stop late Friday, but he continued, driving off after hitting Ronald Dean Covington Jr., 44, of West Monroe, Trooper Mark Dennis said.
Police said Covington worked for Warren's Wrecker Service.
Police arrested Julius Greely, 66, at his home in Monroe early Saturday. After being booked with negligent homicide, hit-and-run and failure to obey police, he was released on $13,150 bond. Read more
