Seeking justice for Detroit? Worthy rejects Kwame's plea offer
Rochelle Riley, columnist for the Detroit Free Press, reports that Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has rejected a plea deal offer from Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick orchestrated by civic leader Peter Karmanos to end the city's turmoil over Kilpatrick's text message fiasco.
Karmanos, CEO of Compuware in downtown Detroit, called civic, legal, and political leaders in Detroit to his headquarters building to discuss putting an end to the international embarrassment and soaring legal costs in the city and county suffer since the text message story came out earlier this year.
Sources familiar with the session told Riley that Kilpatrick's representatives offered a "heartbreaking and historic" deal to settle the case before it went to trial.
However the sources said Worthy rejected the deal, despite their perception she would be hailed as a "hero" if she had accepted it.
