To hear about the home invasions etc in Deltona doesn't surprise me. I've lived here three years and our car has been broken into twice while parked in the drive way and items stolen, the night of the second theft the same thing happened to a lady a few blocks away. Over the summer my 9 year old son was mugged and robbed in my front yard in broad daylight while putting some trash into the garbage can for garbage pick up. While sitting in the pediatricians office I over heard a woman talking about her house being broken into- luckily she caught the thief on camera. But tonight topped it all. I was sitting in the family room at 9pm and heard what I thought was shotgun blasts. I thought the neighbors were being slaughtered. My child was so afraid she was crying and I was wondering if someone was about to break in and kill us next. According to the police it was someone a couple of blocks over shooting fireworks during a "going away party." In my opinion they must have been on drugs to be shooting off fireworks in a residential neighborhood at 9pm. The police seemed to think there was something wrong with me for being upset and I was told not to call 911 more than once. According to the officer, 911 is for emergencies (keep in mind that I thought the fireworks were gunshots). Makes me wonder what the police in Deltona consider an emergency. The officer also told me he does get frequent calls about gunshots in Deltona. The officer also said about 10 other people called 911 about the "fireworks" and several of the callers also thought they were gunshots. Fireworks or gunshots- either way it goes to show you that Deltona isn't the place to live or raise children.

I forgot to mention the incident a few months ago when two women tried to steal my baby pug out of my back yard. I was blessed enough to walk outside and catch the woman with my puppy in her arms, and her car pulled up on the curb with the passenger door open. The other woman was sitting in the drivers seat with the car running. I realize that there is crime in other places as well, but I've never seen anything like Deltona.

I too have been here 3 years .This city is a damn hovel .I think moving here was the biggest mistake Ive ever made in my life . No jobs , 5 to 7 cops for 88000 people , noone speaks english , and rampant crime. Im so happy my property value has fallen over 100 grand in 3 years , Im so glad for all the section 8 garbage , Im so happy about all the meth head white trash .I have friends from other areas that have considered buying in central florida , and Ive told them Ill be out and home when things get a lil better ,(though Im thinking they wont ).best of luck and do like the rest of the state and get a gun , burglar bars and a viscous attack dog, or get a panic alarm on your home. I really wouldnt blame the cops because they are completely overworked here in deltona , they get calls all day and night for annoying bullshit , and fireworks are kinda legal here .goto a gun range so that next time you hear the sounds of what you think is gunfire , you can tell the difference..not bashing you , I understand , but knowing the difference between gunfire and fireworks will def help ya out in the long run . Best of luck .And try and stay safe ..BTW I lived my whole life in NYC and have had more helicopters fly over my area in 3 years than 45 years in NY. Its like the wild west .

Thanks for the suggestion. A gun range sounds like a brilliant idea for a lot of reasons. Thanks
