Two in Maryland charged with sex abuse

DELMAR, Md – Two Delmar, Md., residents are facing child sex abuse charges following an investigation by Maryland State Police. Nichole Crystal McGuire, 23, and Thomas John McGuire, 42, were taken into police custody on Thursday and were charged with assault, second-degree child abuse, sex offense. Nicole McGuire has also been charged with perverted practice. The charges are related to incidents that are alleged to have occurred between June 2010 and November 2011, according to court records. Both are being held at the Wicomico County Detention Center on separate bonds in the amount of $1 million.

Fire rips home in Md.

An accidental house fire near Mardela Springs, Md., has caused over $150,000 in damage to a two-story home that drew firefighters from Delaware and Maryland. The fire in the 24000 block of Cross Road – about 2 miles west of the Delaware state line -- began in the house’s second floor bedroom after combustibles came in contact with a lamp, according to the Maryland state Fire Marshal’s Office. Firefighters from Mardela Springs, Sharptown and Hebron in Maryland as well as Laurel and Delmar in Delaware were called out. Firefighters arrived a little after 5 p.m. on Tuesday and spent around 40 minutes bringing the fire under control. The family is being assisted by the Red Cross.
