So much more than sand and sun, Daytona Beach is where boredom wipes out

Daytona Beach remains one of the few Florida destinations where you can drive the minivan onto the sand, park it and unload for an easy family day in the sun and surf on lifeguard-patrolled beaches. via South Florida Sun-Sentinel

I have to tell you. Daytona Beach has come a long way in the last few years. The beach seems better. The restaurants seem better, there are definitely more choices and my kids love the waterpark. We used to go there every year but had missed going for the last 2. We went this past weekend and the place was awesome. My wife loves it because it's clean and the lifeguards are attentive and good with the kids. My son and I love doing the go-kart track and playing the video games too. The hotels in the area have improved too since my last visit. I can remember 10 years ago thinking that I wouldn't take my family to Daytona but it's definitely coming along. The best part is that it's not nearly as expensive to have fun in Daytona as it is in Orlando. I love the Orlando attractions, and always will, but when you're on a budget you can do 2 trips to Daytona for the price of 1 trip to Orlando. - Dave

I haven't been to Florida on vacation for 7 years. Going to drive down there next week and check the east coast side out again. I always liked the Daytona Boardwalk with the old arcade, heard they tore it down. Hope to find the bar with the real hot hot wings, seemed like if you could eat them they gave you a shirt and put your picture on the wall.

Hardly! I suspect that we are a quaint town, with many little fishes, trying to get bigger, in those tiny (but oh so many) retention ponds..

Spend your time and money on Florida's West Coast. The beaches are cleaner and nicer. Daytona Beach is a Hell-Hole. A1A is lined with rundown motels, Main Street is a Ghost Town except a few bars. Daytona Beach will Charge you for the right to bring your car onto the beach. Before long, they'll charge you for going into the water. Be VERY careful if you travel at night. You've been warned.

Yes Daytona Beach is an all around fun festival for the family.

Hey kids, lets go to Daytona and we can play 'Flee from the homeless!'.

Later this afternoon Mommie can take you to get a shiny new tattoo while Daddy goes to one of the many strip clubs!

Tomorrow we can park our minivan on a dirty beach and get stuck in the loose sand and have to be towed for $100!!! What fun!!

Kids, the fun is just starting...while on the Daytona beach we can watch teenagers and NASSCAR fans wearing Dale Jr. hats and Tshirst drink all day, fight and use swear words right in front of us!

And thats not all...maybe we can watch them have public sex on the beach too!!!!

Just wait until we eat dinner on our trip! Luscious frozen imported seafood from an overpriced restaurant on A1A in violation of Volusia County health inspection!!!

I know, it sounds too good to be true kids. But thats not all!! There's still time to purchase illegal street drugs from the guy parked in the van in the abandoned parking lot. Maybe Daddy wont get shot while doing this.

Yes Daytona was a blast wasnt it kids. I cant wait to go back!

Anyhow, its time to return to our beloved home in nasty crime ridden Orlando so in the van we go!
