Deltona boy, 19, shares story of survival after freak lawn-mower accident
“I think about that more now -- how lucky we are to have some things, how fast things disappear.”
This time last year, 19-year-old Matt Collins was still recuperating from a freak lawn-mower accident that left a hole in his torso and made headlines across Florida.
Today, his father is in disbelief. Doctors themselves were shocked he survived.
For Matt, it's a crazy, you'll-never-believe-this story he likes to tell again and again.

Two men arrested In Volusia following stabbing, robbery
Two men were arrested in Volusia County this morning after police said they stabbed and robbed a man who had gotten into their car to give them directions.
The victim, 26-year-old Michael Maupin of Ormond Beach, was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach with stab wounds to his arm and stomach. He was treated and released, said Brandon Haught, a spokesman for the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.
Now Richard Jones, 35, of Daytona Beach, and Jose Montanez, 37, of Palm Coast, face attempted murder, armed robbery and aggravated battery charges, Haught said. They were booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach. Read more

West Orange High evacuated after bomb threat
West Orange High School was evacuated this morning after officials discovered graffiti that suggested there was an explosive device in the school.
Authorities would not describe the graffiti, which was reported shortly before 10 a.m. The school was evacuated, but students returned to class about 12:30 p.m. after a search found nothing.
The FBI is investigating.
Meanwhile, an eighth grader from Heritage Middle School in Deltona has been arrested after he allegedly yelled out there was a bomb on his bus. Read more

Daytona hospital shares fault in patient killing, Florida says

Policies and procedures at Halifax Health Medical Center weren't enough to keep a patient safe -- and contributed to his death at the hands of another patient, a state report concluded.
The Agency for Health Care Administration looked into practices at the Daytona Beach hospital after John Henry Hill was charged with killing Jimmie Lee Douglas while both were patients in the psychiatric unit.
Hill, 21, who was diagnosed with drug-induced psychosis and schizophrenia, told his parents and detectives that God ordered him to strangle Douglas, 64, because he was evil. The murder weapon was a bedsheet. Read more
