Tamarack Tree Service worker Mark Patton works Nov. 5 to attach crane cables to the Capitol Christmas Tree along Clarks Fork Road in the Stanislaus National Forest in Tuolumne County, where the tree was harvested.

With cold feet but warm hearts, a volunteer crew harvested the U.S. Capitol Christmas tree early Saturday along the Clark Fork of the Stanislaus River not far from Dardanelle.

Former Tuolumne County Superior Court Judge James Rowan Hardin died Saturday after a long illness.
