Boyle deputies make arrest in Perryville store theft

Police responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle on Mitchellsburg Road late Tuesday evening. When deputies pulled over the car driven by Deandre Cox, 18, they detected an odor of burning marijuana.

A search of the vehicle turned up a small quantity of marijuana as well as tobacco items that deputies believe were stolen May 25 from Mr. Miser Food Mart in Perryville.

Deputy Sheriff Marty Elliott said Cox was in possession of a large quantity of smokeless tobacco that allegedly was part of the inventory taken from the store.

Cox was charged with possession of marijuana and receiving stolen property less than $300. He posted a $600 cash bond and was released.

Deputy Al Isaacs and Kentucky State Police responded to a report of a burglary at the store about 4 a.m. on Memorial Day.

Authorities believe three individuals broke into the store on two separate occasions overnight on May 24, primarily taking tobacco products, including 30-40 cartons of cigarettes.

Deputies charged a juvenile male with two counts of third-degree burglary, one count of first-degree criminal mischief, one count of theft by unlawful taking less than $300 and one count of theft by unlawful taking more than $300.

Elliott said police are still looking for two male suspects they believe participated in the burglary and that Cox is a person of interest in the case.

Elliott said the juvenile, who is now in state custody, faces additional charges for falsifying information to police during the initial investigation.
