Tell us what you think: Banning dog breeds

Full story: WBIR-TV Knoxville

A proposal in the city of Dandridge would restrict a powerful breed of dog. The Dandridge Board of Aldermen vote in a few weeks on whether to join other Jefferson County towns and ban pit bulls within the town limits.

It would be more effective to ban red necks. That's the real problem.

Any dog, can be vicious and agressive,it all depends on how they are trained. I have met a chihuahua that was meaner, more aggressive and did more damage than most pit bulls I know. I have a bull mastiff, who if trained to be defense and aggressive, would be but he is not. he is the most gentle dog. I don't think any one breed of dog should be banned. Training is key to a gentle kind dog.

PLEASE!
I urge anyone who doesn't like this breed, for whatever reason or is scared of this breed, please meet me and my dogs! I promise they will change your minds! My dogs are ambassadors for their breed(american bulldog and american pitbull terrier) they have manors and would never harm a soul! They have been raised right, loved right and taught right from wrong since early puppyhood.
Please don't ban this breed, simply because ignorant people want to pretend to be hard through their dogs. All these dogs want is love and they are the most loyal dogs ever.
Ban the deed,not the breed!
Any dog can be made mean,we should punish anyone who abuses any animal.
Fight ignorance,not dogs!

It all depends on how the dogs are raised. I have two Pit bulls they both are very sweet and have never shown and signs of aggression. I've had alot of ppl tell me how sweet they are. Any ways the reason Pit bulls have a bad name is because of stupid people. I agree with brittin and Pit lover!

I am an animal lover. However I do think these dogs need a ban. Yes ANY dog can harm people BUT these are the ones that ALWAYS seem to attack. There is one on my road that eat the shit out of a childs legs and her parents wouldnt take her to the ER cuz they didnt want their dog to get put to sleep. Give me a break. These dogs needs to be banned nation wide!! Along with alot of other breeds! Hope the ban dosent affect the ones that people already have that are good pets but they really need to stop breeding them!

It doesn't only depend on how dogs are raised. Another, perhaps more-so, important factor is the temperament that is bred into the dog. Don't ban dogs, ban the idiot backyard breeders that mate animals with no regard for their medical/behavioral backgrounds and sit around wondering why the animals they've never taught to be mean are still inherently aggressive.

A ban will affect all dogs, there will not be a select amount!
How can you call yourself an animal lover if you think the solution to someones ignorance is killing an innocent animal? What do you think would happen? All go to a happy farm? No! They will be killed by the thousands, even if they are a childs life long pet or a service dog. Killed and dumped like trash!

This is like saying white men beat their women more than any other race so let's ban white people!

Seriously! We are better than this!

I AM an animal lover but I Love my children more!! I dont think the dogs that can be proved to be harmless should be removed but the ones that have a temperment should be. I hate the thought of any animal being put down but if it could possibly save someone life then so be it. I have dogs but they are smaller and I love them however IF they ever bite one of my kids they are gone!!

So why ban this breed? Why not every mean dog? And with my experience little dogs are by far more likely to bite than big ones!

I'm glad you have such little confidence in your dogs,I know FOR FACT my dogs would NEVER EVER bite any of my children or I wouldn't have them. Maybe you should be harder on irresponsibe pet owners not innocent animals. Small minded people like you are why this breed can't get ahead of the terrible stigma behind it! Work on your pack leader skills then get back to me.
Oh and I have proof that dogs unlike most people can be abused and still be amazing dogs,I have rescues and they are wonderful dogs because I love, and exercise them and am strict with them.

Cola I know my dogs would never bite my children. They know better! However I was making a point and I guess your just too stupid to get it! I love all animals however there are some that need to be removed. I am not saying ALL pits. I have met pits that were great however ALOT of them are trained WRONG and to be aggressive. These are the ones that need to be taken. So many people get these dogs for the wrong reasons and not just as a loving loyal pet. So think what ever you want but there are ALOT of these dogs that need to be removed !!

Let's see who is the stupid one here...
You say you agree with a pit bull ban, then you say your an animal lover.
Now you say you think aggressive pits should be removed,do you really think there will be any leeway in a ban? Do you really think they will do a temperment test on each dog?
I think its pretty ignorant for you to think pits are the only aggressive breed.
I think its clear who is the stupid one.

I agree that there shouldn't be aggressive dogs, but to simply ban pit bulls is horrible. There will always be aggressive dogs somewhere, regardless of the breed. Its sad but true. I think people should be held responsibe for what they do not this breed.

Its obvious you will never see my point,or see how wrong this really is and for that I really feel sorry for you. These are beautiful amazing dogs. Just wait, soon enough maybe the breed of dogs you own will be next and you will understand. Maybe you should research top 5 dogs that bite or attack, you may be surprised to see where pits place.

Please don't ban this breed, simply because ignorant people want to pretend to be hard through their dogs. All these dogs want is love and they are the most loyal dogs ever.I totally agree with you on this .I have several breed of dogs . they are all trained with love , therefore they are BIG BABIES ...I have 3 pitbulls , I have an american bulldog , a cocker spaniel , a chihuahua , a minature grey hound , an australian sheep herder , a collie , a peakinese and just an old mix breed that I picked up in a ditch ...they all play together , they love kids and they love cats ... but the meanest is the white chihuahua who has a problem with all the others .. he is continuously trying to hurt the bigger dogs over the american bulldog .

Ban the DEED ,not the breed!

I feel that the owners should be the ones punished , not the breed . for it is not the dogs fault , it is how they are treated and trained . please save the dogs , and punish the breeder .

I think it's a shame that all pitbulls and their owners have to suffer because of the ignorance of a few. I am an animal lover and I do agree that any dog can be vicious and aggressive. With that being said, I think that controlling the issue of aggressive pitbulls and ignorant owners can only be achieved by banning the breed. Punishing the deed instead of the breed as I have read on here several times is a punishment after the fact. What about the children or adults that were mamed or killed by the deed. Punishing afterwards won't change what happened. I really can't think of another way to stop the problem other than banning them altogether. To the responsible pet owners, I'm sorry.

well , I happen to somewhat disagree with this .

Before completely banning this breed over the ignorance of SOME of the owners/ breeders , there should be steps that one should have to go through to have the right to keep this breed .

for instance :

when I ADOPTED the minature greyhound, the people that she was adopted from , had a " contract " for one to agree to and sign .
I did not have to spay her (that was my choice ) BUT I had to agree to home visits (UNexpected ones) random visits at their descretion .for 6 months to a year , or untill they felt that I was " fit " to adopt this dog ...lol it was as bad as someone having to go through social service over a child ,
( or worse than that ) but , I could not COMPLETELY adopt this dog untill I passed their evaluation . maybe this should be what breeders and owners should have to go through for this breed . it may solve some situations BEFORE the fact. this may be a way to see who is more fit for the raising of this breed . they should only go to good loving homes. not the kind that teaches them to attack and mistreat them . may solve more of the problem than many would think .

What everyone fails to realize is these dogs are more commonly trained to protect. Thats why everyone gets a pit, for protection. You dont buy them to be lap dogs.

Daily Horoscope for December 7

Leo

If there have been slight tensions or frictions between you and a loved one recently, this is the perfect day to get them out into the open, thrash them out and then forget about them. Things could get quite heated in the process but don't worry because they'll work out all right in the end. Put as much energy into kissing and making up as you did in arguing!
