Peninsula: Person of interest named in Gypsy Hill cold case murders

Nearly 40 years after the Gypsy Hill murders rocked communities up and down the Peninsula, the FBI has for the first time named a person of interest in the slaying of the five young women. Rodney Halbower, 66, was linked to the 1976 cold case investigation via a DNA match discovered by the San Mateo County Crime Lab, along with crime labs in Oregon and Washoe County, Nevada, FBI officials said.

Daly City man charged with vehicular manslaughter pleads not guilty

RED BLUFF >> The 28-year-old Daly City man charged with gross vehicular manslaughter stemming from the Aug. 30 death of Alejandro Barrera of Corning pleaded not guilty Thursday. About 5:15 a.m. Aug. 30, Anthony Edwards Stangl was traveling south on Hall Road at about 60-65 miles per hour when he allegedly ran a stop sign at South Avenue and broadsided an eastbound 1988 Acura driven by Barrera, 45, according to the California Highway Patrol.
