Man pilfered a lot of gas, detectives say
As Hobert Gibson stood outside his pickup truck, propped his arms on the passenger door and waited inconspicuously at the Cumberland Farms gas station Tuesday, hundreds of gallons of gasoline were being pumped out of the ground and into tanks hidden in his stolen trailer.
What Gibson, 70, of Winter Haven didn't know was that sheriff's investigators were watching nearby.
Polk County detectives said they saw Gibson earlier in the day, when he pumped about 400 gallons of fuel from a Lakeland station, then followed him to the Dade City store. Read more

Orlando community service worker Aracely Robledo and her two children are among several families traveling to Washington, D.C., today to lobby Florida's congressional delegation in favor of the State Children's Health Insurance Program, or SCHIP.
Robledo -- whose children, Cynthia and David, are enrolled in the state's SCHIP program, Florida KidCare will visit with delegation members Wednesday. Accompanying them will be a Dade City mother and her two children who also are on SCHIP. On Thursday, the U.S. House is scheduled to vote on whether to override President's Bush's veto of the latest SCHIP bill passed by Congress. Read more
