RIVERTON Twp. - Firefighters were forced to stand by and watch as a house burned to the ground Monday night into this morning.

Douglas L. Hill, 63, of Custer, passed away December 30, 2012. Doug was born on December 30, 1949, in Hart, to Howard N. and Lillian M. Hill, and graduated from Pentwater High School.

Ella Jane Sommerfeldt, 85, of Custer, passed away on May 2, at Memorial Medical Center of West Michigan.

West Shore Community College will recognize students' academic achievements and award scholarships at 7 p.m. Friday, May 3 in the Center Stage Theater located in the Arts and Sciences Center and the public is invited to attend.

David Lee Koehl, 50, of Pentwater, passed Wednesday morning, May 1, in his home, after a long battle with cancer.

Firefighters from four departments - Fountain, Free Soil, Custer and Scottville - responded to a house fire at 349 Fountain Road late Saturday morning.

The Student Awards Convocation will be held at 7 p.m. in the Center Stage Theater located in the Arts and Sciences Center and the public is invited to attend.
