5-year-old Cupertino boy accidently run over by teacher at day care

Full story: Santa Cruz Sentinel

Nelson Wei would have turned 6 on Sunday. But instead of a birthday party to celebrate another year for their only child, Nelson's parents and friends held a ceremony to honor the young but tragically short life of a boy born to smile.

Why can't we just say we're very sorry for their loss and our hearts go out to the family? Do we have to start the comments with stereotypes and criticisms? Where's your sympathy for the family? Shame on you! I'm sure the woman who was negligent will get her comeuppance one way or the other.
Rest in peace, little Nelson.

Yes, I agree with Mia. This is a most difficult time for the Wei Family and the driver. It's very sad when accidents happened, especially when young children were involved. Let us all remind ourselves to be more watchful and alert at all times when we are behind the wheel. May God bless little Nelson ........

I've lived for 55 years right around the corner from that school. I don't want to sound racist but I just have to spill my guts and speak my mind. Cupertino is virtually 85 percent chinese and as a group, they are terrible, terrible drivers. Blow off stop signs and crosswalks as they blindly rush around in their self important lives. By the way, my first manderin class was in 1965 and I've been to all of the largest cities in china in 1982.
We all rush around in our self important lives. My heart goes out to little Nelson's mom and dad. This unfortunate incident could have been caused not only by chinese driver, but by others as well. How often do we hear about Chinese in our police reports? Hardly ever.

Do you know the policy about the after school program? This after school doesn't have any day care center license. Why it is still open till now?

This is such a sad and preventable situation. I pray for the family of both Nelson and the teacher who caused this tragedy. I see many parents drop or pick up kids at school without even getting out of the car. I wish people would take their time and walk their kids (babies) to and from cars. They are Gods gift to us and we MUST protect them. God be with these families and give them comfort and peace during this terrible time.

This is indeed a bad accident. With that many kids, the teacher should have counted heads. Assuming a kid is off and in class is absurd especially at this young age. My condolences to the family and teacher who will live with this trauma forever.

This was not an accident, this was pure negligence. Negligence of the woman driving the car. How old was this woman? 16? She should have stopped, put on the parking brake, turned off the engine, and escorted those children to the front door of the school. Negligent. Incompetent. She killed a child. They were in her care ! The vehicle is a lethal weapon. There is no excuse for this. I too would take my children out of that school. Sue the school for all they can for taking their child's life from them.

This Chinese run school has no business licence for a day care after hours? My Lord !.. Shameful. Parents, take your children out of there before they become negligent with any more children.

Where is this school? Is it in a residential house? I maybe wrong but heard one teacher can have up to five children without license.
In any case, this day care teacher does not have any care at all, lacks the simplest, most fundamental means of safety, especially around young kids.

Daily Horoscope for November 23

Libra

Today can be one of the most romantic this month, as the nurturing Moon lights up your fifth house. Express your love and affection and find it returned to you several times over; you can multiply your joy today by spreading it around. Watch out for too much of a good thing, however. There are bound to be killjoys who will resent your blithe spirit; don't waste your happiness on those who are enjoying a foul mood.
