Federal agents on Thursday raided the offices of Crestwood 's engineering firm, the latest step in a criminal investigation into the Cook County suburb's secret use of a community well contaminated with cancer-causing chemicals.

The feds have begun to fill in the blanks.

Tests of groundwater and soil last month near Crestwood 's contaminated well failed to detect any troublesome chemicals, according to results the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency posted online Wednesday.

Crestwood residents can rest easier knowing their health isn't at risk from the contaminants that lurk in their soil and groundwater, according to test results revealed Wednesday by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.

An Arctic fox, two coyotes and 27 dogs were found at an illegal animal breeding operation in Crestwood, according to county officials.

Cook County sheriff's police rescued 30 animals from what they are calling an illegal breeding operation in suburban Crestwood.

Danny Vithoulkas, 44, was charged with nearly a dozen counts of animal related crimes following an investigation where Vithoulkas offered to sell undercover officers two 7-week old German Shepherd puppies.

No one has flip-flopped or abandoned the taxpayers more than Joan Murphy, the incumbent Cook County commissioner from the southwest suburban 6th District.

The IEPA has recently determined and concluded that this action and conduct by the Village of Crestwood was illegal. In 1986 the IEPA ordered the Village not to pump and distribute the contaminated water for drinking and use by Village residents. Amazingly, however, for more than 20 years, the Village violated the IEPA order and its agreement with the IEPA by intentionally pumping and distributing the vinyl chloride contaminated water to its residents.

They are tapping 20 feet below ground, sampling the ground water around a contaminated well and checking which way the water is flowing.

Documents produced by the village of Crestwood show use of the contaminated well as high as 27 percent yet the Illinois EPA says 'the highest use of the well was 20%.' Why did the IL EPA keep the contamination from the public if they learned about it in November of 2007? Were they ever going to tell us? Why does the IL EPA insist on minimizing the crime? How do we know that at times we wern't drinking STRAIGHT WELL WATER?

The widow of a Crestwood man has filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against the village and former mayor Chester Stranczek, claiming her husband developed lymphoma after drinking the village's contaminated water for years.

Testing by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency found no contamination of private wells located near the polluted Crestwood well that recently was shut down.
