I was riding home from work and saw this accident right after it happened. As a matter of fact I fear my ride home that way every night I have to work, I would even say if I was another 10 minutes earlier it could have been me. First of all someone needs to do something about all the deer that stand along the side of that part of 85 every night. Sometimes you see 30 of them, they are usually right at the edge of the road and stop eating to look at you as you drive by, its very nerve wracking and is always dangerous. Now they have added that traffic light. I'm sorry but in the middle of the night they need to turn it down somehow. When you have been out in the pitch dark for 10 minutes or more and you come up to that bright light, you are blinded for 2 miles after it until your eyes can adjust again, also very dangerous. I feel for this lady's family, 2 young kids now without a mother. I knew when I saw her car that someone had to die in it, it was crushed.
I hate to say kill animals for any reason, but something needs to be done along that strip, there are just too many deer, and as they keep building out there it is only going to get worse.

sorry you feel that way but they were here before we took over their homes and now they are forced to get food whereever they can same as you would. how did you feel when IVAN came thru here, like them not knowing where you would get your next meal?maybe fences would be a better thing for them

Who cares about the deer. They are over populated in this area anyway. Kill them all I say. That is why I drive a big truck. Deer jumps out in front of me I will roll over it like a speed bump. Heck then I might go back and get its family. They were here before us. Who cares. We are here now. Kill them all I say. More hunters, more dogs....bring them on.

I don't agree with either of you. First, you are no more of an animal lover than me. I will hit a tree before a rabbit, and that is my point. You are ignorant if you would rather save a deer than to live to see your kids grow up. Fence? you live in town right? You are aware that a grown deer can jump easily over a 8 foot fence, and bringing up Ivan, stupid comparison. Yeah, you are just an idiot and I'm glad your in Pensacola.

I agree, something needs to be done about the deer. I have lived in this area for over twenty years and the deer have always been out there at the side of the road around this time of year.
I often wonder if it is the feed the hunters put down in areas to draw them out. Just pure spectualtion of course. I am not saying they put it down at the side of the road but they may do it just inside the woods.
That is goverment owned land and I imagine to get anything changed they would be the ones that a person would have to go to.
I doubt fencing is an option as it would be far too expensive.
I am an animal lover and I am one that would rather hit a tree then a deer. Either one is likely to kill you or do some serious damage.
What happened to that woman was horrible but unless it happens a lot more nothing will change sad to say.
Unbelievable

The best thing would be for the air force to put food plots down back inside the woods away from the road, however they won't do anything smart like that.
Maybe with all the new military we have moving in out there, some of them will hit them and be seriously hurt or killed, then they may do something.
I hate the thought of hunting BUT since they are doing it anyway, it would be nice for the military and the local areas to advertise that they would like people to hunt in that area and thin them down.
The east side of the road is always worse.

Daily Horoscope for December 29

Leo

It's hard to pin down a certain person today because they're being so vague and dithery. Ask them a question and they'll vacillate or be unable to give you a straight answer. You might suspect them of deceitful goings on but it's far more likely that they're simply in a world of their own and can't keep their mind on anything for long. Don't worry, they'll soon be back on planet earth.
