A San Diego-area man charged with beating a puppy so badly it had to be euthanized is a veteran currently getting treatment for PTSD at the VA hospital according to his defense attorney.

A 26-year-old man who lives in rural San Diego County has been arrested on a felony animal abuse charge on suspicion of beating his 4-month-old Siberian husky so severely the dog had to be euthanized, officials said.
